Airline Wi-Fi rollout in 2026: Delta and Air Canada go free without Starlink
Delta has free Delta Sync on more than 1,200 aircraft, and Air Canada offers free Wi-Fi on equipped North American and Sun flights. Both still have gaps in 2026: Delta on regional jets and trans-Pacific routes, Air Canada on long-haul international flights.

Key numbers
- Delta reported Delta Sync Wi-Fi on more than 1,200 aircraft in May 2026.
- Delta planned full fleet connectivity by the end of 2026; its regional and trans-Pacific work was still in progress.
- Air Canada offers free Wi-Fi to eligible members on equipped North American and Sun flights; long-haul expansion is planned for 2026.
- Provider, fitted aircraft, route coverage, and free-access rules are separate checks.
The short answer
Delta and Air Canada are expanding free Wi-Fi, and neither sells its current service as Starlink. Delta reported Delta Sync on more than 1,200 aircraft in May 2026 and planned full fleet connectivity by year-end, with regional jets and trans-Pacific coverage still being completed. Air Canada offers free Wi-Fi on equipped North American and Sun flights to eligible members and plans long-haul expansion in 2026. Check the assigned flight and membership terms before assuming access.
Delta Sync uses Viasat and Hughes connectivity
Delta said in May 2026 that free Delta Sync Wi-Fi reached more than 1,200 aircraft. SkyMiles members sign in for access. Delta uses satellite partners including Viasat and Hughes; it has also announced an Amazon Leo agreement for an initial 500 aircraft beginning in 2028. None of those installations affect a 2026 flight.
Delta's media kit says most of its fleet has streaming-capable service and targets full connectivity by the end of 2026. It identifies regional jets and trans-Pacific routes as remaining rollout areas. A Delta Sync label on one aircraft does not establish coverage on every route or tail number.
Air Canada has a route boundary
Air Canada's current connectivity page offers free, streaming-quality Wi-Fi on equipped flights within North America and to Sun destinations for Aeroplan and United MileagePlus members, as well as Business Class passengers. The carrier says long-haul international free access is planned for 2026.
Air Canada's flight checker shows Wi-Fi availability for the next five days. Add the loyalty number to the reservation and check the flight close to departure.
Read a Wi-Fi claim at the right level
An airline can have an internet provider on a fleet type while some of that type's aircraft remain unequipped. A fitted airframe can still encounter a service outage or a geographic restriction. Free access can require a loyalty login even when the radio link is working.
For a flight in September 2026 or later, use SeatInside to narrow the likely aircraft and provider, then use the airline's flight-specific Wi-Fi status. Recheck after an aircraft swap. The onboard portal is the final access check.
Common questions
Does Delta use Starlink for Delta Sync?
Delta's 2026 updates name Viasat and Hughes for current service and an Amazon Leo agreement for installations beginning in 2028. Delta Sync is the passenger service name, not a Starlink rollout.
Is Delta Wi-Fi free on every plane?
Delta reported more than 1,200 aircraft with free Delta Sync Wi-Fi in May 2026 and targeted the full fleet by year-end. SkyMiles login is required, and the remaining regional and route work means an individual flight still needs checking.
Is Air Canada Wi-Fi free on international flights?
Air Canada lists free access on equipped North American and Sun flights for eligible members and Business Class passengers. It planned long-haul international expansion during 2026; check your flight within five days of departure.
